A recent study in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology found that pre-eclampsia risk decreases in the summer months in white women but not in black women. The incidence of pre-eclampsia in Caucasian women is lowest in August, and highest in January. This study included almost 40,000 pregnant women from 12 sites around the US. Black women did not show any seasonal difference in pre-eclampsia risk. The investigators hope that further study will help illuminate racial differences underlying pre-eclampsia risk.
