News from MaMA, Summer 2006
Practice news
Summer is whizzing by so fast that your intrepid reporter just realized July is almost over!
Postpartum support group continues to meet weekly on Mondays through the summer, except for legal holidays. The group continues to grow, and some of our original guests are now crawling! We will be celebrating the group’s first birthday on Saturday, September 30 with a big reunion to which all parents and babies who have ever come are invited. Contact Deb Gowen, CNM at arlmidwife@yahoo.com for more info.
A well-earned retirement Ann Abbott, CNM, MN who has been with MaMA since 2003 and before that with WomenCare since 2000, is retiring from full time practice at the end of this year. We’re hoping she will remain on staff per diem so her loyal following at the Hope Ave. office will still be able to see her there.
5000th MAMA baby due in the fall Sometime soon, probably in September, a MAMA midwife will attend the birth of the 5000th baby to be born with us since the very first one on December 9, 1983. A big celebration is planned to coincide with National Midwifery Week, October 1-7. Stay tuned for more about this milestone event.
Personal news
Robyn Churchill recently attended the birth of her nephew.
Marcia Snyder became a grandmother for the 2nd time on Sunday, July 23rd, when her daughter Rachael birthed baby Tessa. Marcia missed big brother Gavin’s birth, but this time, she was not only present but served as the ‘catcher’!
