Practice News

We welcome Kathryn Kravetz, CNM, MS, the newest member of our group who joined us in January.  Kathryn is a 2003 graduate of the UCSF midwifery program and completed undergraduate majors in chemistry and French before pursuing her midwifery career. She is the vice chair of the Eastern MA chapter of ACNM.  She is going through an orientation period working with senior midwives. Later, she’ll be working at the Joseph M Smith Community Health Centers, where her facility with Spanish and Portuguese will be fully utilized, and sharing call for births.

Mary Culliton plans to spend a long weekend in Chicago in April learning colposcopy. Once she is fully trained, MAMA patients will have the option of seeing Mary for colposcopy services.

Julie Mann returned from her maternity leave at the end of December and is now working at the Joseph Smith—Allston site, taking call on Friday nights, and filling in here and there as time permits. Her son, Moses, is 4 months old at this writing and cute as can be.

Personal News

Maryann
was recently appointed to the ACNM Division of Accreditation (DOA), Board of Review (BOR).  Here is some fascinating information about a little- known function of the ACNM: the DOA sets standards for midwifery education programs that wish to be accredited by ACNM. Each program must periodically submit a self-evaluation report (SER) detailing how it meets the DOA’s criteria. Two site visitors from the DOA visit the program to verify the information in the SER. The site visitors’ report (SVR) and the SER are sent to the BOR, who make the decision regarding accreditation at their twice-yearly meetings. Having  written parts of 2 SERs years ago, and served as a site visitor since 1992, Maryann is looking forward to seeing the other side of the accreditation process.
