| Deborah Cordero Fiedler, CNM Debbie received her midwifery education at the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, graduating in 2000. She has been involved in women’s health care and birthing for nearly 30 years, as a nurse, anthropologist, and now as a midwife. She teaches MaMA’s childbirth education classes and takes some weekend labor and delivery call. “After 8 years working as a nurse and childbirth educator, I entered graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh to pursue my interest in the cultural dimension of childbirth practices. I did my dissertation research in Japan and worked closely with midwives there. Midwifery was always calling to me, even as I completed my doctorate and pursued an academic career in anthropology, Japanese studies, and women’s studies.” Outside of midwifery, Debbie enjoys spending time at the beach, kayaking, gardening, and reading, but most of her time and energy is spent raising her son. |
