Leslie Mosley, CNM ![]() I first learned about midwives when I was in college in Colorado. Inspired by the way midwives bridged the gap between communities and access to medical care, I wanted to learn more. I interviewed midwives throughout Colorado and New Mexico. I met midwives working in many different settings: a well-established birth center in Taos, a large hospital-based practice in Albuquerque, the Navaho reservation in Shiprock, and a home birth practice in Boulder. There was a common thread: Midwives listened to women and their families. They provided practical care within the unique fabric of each community. It’s been over 15 years since I interviewed those midwives. In that time, I graduated from Yale School of Nursing and have been a midwife for almost 10 years. I speak Spanish and have provided care in multi-cultural, urban settings in New Haven, CT and Boston. I’ve also been very lucky to have three wonderful children- all born with midwives.
